CNY Reunion Dinner!

February 6, 2008

 gk_cny_03.gif

Hello,

mouse-year.jpgJust a friendly reminder to everyone that today is the CNY reunion dinner. Don’t forget to make yourself available for tonight for your parents. Gather up and have a warm and close dinner together. :)

Reunion dinner

A reunion dinner is held on New Year’s Eve where members of the family, near and far away, get together for the celebration. The venue will usually be in or near the home of the most senior member of the family. The New Year’s Eve dinner is very sumptuous and traditionally includes chicken and fish. In some areas, fish  is included, but not eaten completely (and the remainder is stored overnight), as the Chinese phrase “may there be surpluses every year” sounds the same as “may there be fish every year.”

In mainland China, many families will banter whilst watching the CCTV New Year’s Gala in the hours before midnight.

Red packetsfor the immediate family are sometimes distributed during the reunion dinner. These packets often contain money in certain numbers that reflect good luck and honorably. Several foods are consumed to usher in wealth, happiness, and good fortune. Several of the Chinese food names are homophones for words that also mean good things.

Meanings of Chinese New Year.

February 6, 2008

mouse-year.jpgChinese New Year or Spring Festival  is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. It is sometimes called the Lunar New Year, especially by people outside China. It is an important holiday in East Asia. The festival traditionally begins on the first day of the first lunar month in the Chinese calendar and ends on the 15th; this day is called Lantern Festival. Chinese New Year’s Eve is known as Chúxī (除夕). Chu literally means “change” and xi means “Eve”.

Mythology

According to legend, in ancient China, the Nián (年) was a man-eating beast from the mountains (in other versions from under the sea), which came out every 12 months somewhere close to winter to prey on humans. The people later believed that the Nian was sensitive to loud noises and the colour red, so they scared it away with explosions, fireworks and the liberal use of the colour red. These customs led to the first New Year celebrations. Guò nián, which means to celebrate the new year, literally means the passover of the Nian.

Big Apple Donuts!

February 6, 2008

Hello,

Yes, is me again. I just want to get all my post all up before I go for my holiday. What holiday? It is Chinese New Year 2008! although is a few days of holidays but still I’ll be back at my hometown where I don’t have Internet connection over there so is better to have all my post up right now.

I went to Midvalley’s The Gardens for CNY shopping for clothes and shoes, not to mention the hamper… bump into a new donut shop. It is called BIG APPLE! I can reassured you that the BIG APPLE shop in The Gardens provide more flavor compare to the other shops around the Klang Valley. I can’t remember the names of the donuts but I can tell you which one when you and I were there. That day, my girlfriend and I bought a lot of donuts… man in my whole life I don’t eat so much donuts. Bought 2 boxes 12’s and another 2 boxes of 6’s. Check out the photos below:-

PaintBalling !

February 5, 2008

Dear Friends and Familes,

I don’t know why I would prefer to write my blog during this hours. Maybe is due to weather is much cooler and with my favourite mp3 playing in the background create a very nice mood to write. Like what I’ve mention earlier that I’ve got myself into a new hobby. This new hobby of mine is paintball!

This is my second time playing paintball. The first session was with my colleagues. It was a team outings. They even brought their partner to join us in the war zone. Gosh! it was very tiring and exhausting game to play. You must be fit to play paintball, if not you will be gushing for air to breathe. The first session was around 13 people. We split into 6 and 7 people a group. The war-zone was like the real war-zone and they call it “recreational park”. It was a great outing. One of my poor colleague got shot on his *ahem* little private. By seeing his face I know how he is in pain. During that day we played 4 games. All the 4 games was capture the flag. It was 1-1 on the first half, then the last two games was boys VS girls time. The guys beat them! Yeah!

After this game, me and my another colleague plan another paintball session at the same place but different field. This time we took the tournament field. With the same amount of people but different people and a small field..it was fantastic. No one can hide very long. Bullets are fired non stop. This time we played 6 games. Thanks to our boss who chip in a little to have another few hours of fun. This time around we spilt the group into black and white teams. The blacks will have a little experience of team member in them, as for the white all of them is pure first timers.

Round 1: White 1 – Black 0, this is because we underestimate the newcomers.

Round 2: White 1 – Black 1, we’ve got our revenge!

Round 3: White 1 – Black 2, white team is out of bullets.

Round 4: White 1 – Black 3, all the blue black and head shots are well worth it.

Final Round: Team  open VS Team close= 5-7, my team won them fair and square!

I’ve uploaded some photos for you all to catch a glimpse. Too bad I’m unable to snap some photos during the game-play. I’m afraid my camera is shot by paintball!
